North of Beautiful

This book was not on my long list, but I thought I would read it anyway. It's North Of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley.

About and Thoughts on Book:
As he continued to stare, I wanted to point to my cheek and remind him, But you were the one who wanted this, remember? You're the one who asked-and I repeat-Why not fix your face?

It's hard not to notice Terra Cooper.

She's tall, blond, and has an enviable body. But with one turn of her cheek, all people notice is her unmistakably "flawed" face. Terra secretly plans to leave her stifling small town in the Northwest and escape to an East Coast college, but gets pushed off-course by her controlling father. When an unexpected collision puts Terra directly in Jacob's path, the handsome but quirky Goth boy immediately challenges her assumptions about herself and her life, and she is forced in yet another direction. With her carefully laid plans disrupted, will Terra be able to find her true path?

So choosing to read this book was a smart idea. It was a book I didn't want to put down, but was forced to by my mother. Terra explains a lot of this book through things that have to do with maps and cartography. It went well with the story, and now I know a lot more about cartography. lol. Her dad is someone you just want to smack. Through out the book, all I wanted to do was scream at him. He's a cartographer who is infamous for believing China actually discovered America. Which they didn't, so he doesn't want anything that reminds him of the mistake he made. He belittles everyone in his family, including Terra's port wine stain and the art she makes. She makes collages that tell more about the people they're about than the person might actually tell you. He says they're not art. Again, I wish he could be smacked. The guy in this, because of course there is a guy, Jacob, is someone who's not afraid to tell you what you're afraid to here. I find that he seems pretty amazing in my opinion. Overall, this is a wonderful book that I think anyone will like and probably read over and over again. I may even do that and that is so not like me.

Hi, I found your blog through the blogger hop thing and was reading through some of your posts. This actually sounds pretty good. It's not my usual type of book, I really like paranormal stuff, but I may just take your word on it and give it a try :)

You should, I think you'll like it. I read a bunch of paranormal books too, but I still liked this book.

Oh, wow, this sounds awesome! I normally also don't read much other than paranormal books, but I read Willow the other day (and loved it!) and I've been considering Cracked Up To Be (Courtney Summers) ... I kind of like these tragic YA books ... this one might be worth a read :)
